I need to make an entire post about this. i have too much to say to reply to iheartjurassicpark’s lovely video in a reply or ask. :P

I dont get how director Joe Johnston is going to start Jurassic Park 4 with a backstory of how the first movie started (how the idea for the park came about, and got started, etc) and then just go off in a totally different direction. that’s ridiculous to almost make a prequel to the first movie, then skip over 3 movies and jump into something completely different.

Joe Johnston also said that JP4 will be “completely different.” This could be good or bad. It will be good if it is different from JP2 & 3, but bad if it is much different than the first movie.

I still believe no Jurassic Park movie will ever be better than the first movie.

If Joe Johnston starts a whole new trilogy….ahhh I’m just nervous about it. It will most likely feature many new cast members just because a new trilogy probably means new characters. Some old ones might still be there, but still, it just won’t be the same as the first movie.

You want to reboot the series and have it be successful Johnston? LET ME TELL YOU WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

  • BRING BACK TIM MURPHY GODDAMNIT. I strongly believe that if Joe Mazzello was back as Tim Murphy, and if Tim plays the LEAD CHARACTER throughout your entire “new trilogy” that you could have one hell of a successful franchise. Tim is a known and well liked character, and to have Joe himself back as Tim after 20 years would just be INCREDIBLE. the fans would love it. Joe would love it. he said it would be “the greatest thrill of his life.” We know he can do it. um have you seen The Pacific? Tim Murphy isn’t 9 years old anymore. PUT HIM IN THE 4TH MOVIE.
  • Also bring back Dr. Grant, Dr. Sattler, Dr Malcolm, and John Hammond. ALL played by the original actors from the first movie.
  • ugh basically, bring back the original cast, make Tim Murphy the lead character, don’t make the story cheesy, and just…MAKE IT HAPPEN.

I’m afraid Johnston will have JP4 set in offices where ~businessmen are discussing the island, the park, the dinosaurs, and maybe there would be some scenes in a ~lab~ or something with all new characters and actors that suck and ugh.

I don’t know what else to say. I could talk about the Mazzello/Tim Murphy/Jurassic Park 4 subject for hours.

thanks for writing about it ^.^
I feel the same wayyyy its so nerve wrecking! i don’t want new characters!! and yeah, i don’t see how he’s going to show the “start” of the park and actually make it interesting. I mean, pretty much all we got from the movie was that John Hammond use to have a flea circus and then really wanted this park to happen, which didn’t because he’s dumb. Anyway, JOE MAZZELLO, YES PLEASE. It’s such a brilliant idea. I think we need to write Universal, Johnston, or whoever and let them know their ideas are going to SUCK! Are you with me? I’m being serious. We all need to write a submission and I will seriously send it with everyone’s name, date, etc. We’ve been waiting YEARS for this and the worse thing to happen in my life is seeing this movie and it being horrible! Let me know what you think!

I think it’s a little early to write to them and say “YOUR IDEAS SUCK!” because the plot details are so vague right now, but I seriously want to start a petition or something to demand that Joe in the 4th movie. I was thinking about that the other day. JOSEPH MUST BE IN THIS MOVIE! There must be a way to get the attention of the studios. But…if there is no Tim Murphy in Spielberg’s script and his mind is made up, then I don’t think we can do anything to change that. :(

I’m sure there will be SOMETHING in the script for a 20 something guy that Joe could play…..but even then, it would be weird to have him be in a Jurassic Park movie and play someone besides Tim Murphy. I’m sure Joe has Spielberg’s number and if Joe really really really wants in on this movie, he might be able to get an audition. Or maybe even get a small cameo. He deserves the lead role, but I’d be happy with a cameo…at least it’s something.

very true. but i just feel like if enough people are like hey, we dont want this or this, then maybe it’ll scare them into changing around their script. i mean, who’s going to make a movie with ideas major fans don’t like and expect them to make good money off of it. i feel like if we don’t say something at all, then it won’t be known to anyone. If we did, at LEAST they’ll know, whether or not they’re smart enough to change it around :P i will think of something clever. and oh no, i cannot see joe back as another person. it just wouldn’t seem right and i’d think it was timmy the whole time. and yeah, a cameo is something.

(God dangit tumblr I had so much typed out and you just deleted it all and now I have to rewrite it)

About to bring in some science and some book related thoughts into this matter. You can get mad at me if you want. This will also be very tl;dr but oh well.

First lets talk about Tim coming back.

I have no objections to this honestly; bring back Lex too. Malcom, Sattler, and Grant, however, all had their comebacks, and frankly there is no reason for them to come back again. On the matter of Hammond, well. He died between the 2nd and 3rd movies. I don’t know if you noticed how many machines he was hooked up to in Lost World, but yeah. Kind of a sickly old man at that point. Also, (spoiler alert for the JP books) at the end of the first JP book Hammond is eaten alive by Compys. Long story short Hammond is dead and will not come back.

As for Malcom, Sattler, and Grant. Again, they had their movies. Sattler maybe not so much, but she was still there. The only reason they might need to make even the briefest of appearances is for math! or science! reasons, but if they do bring Tim back, and give him the career he has by the time Lost World rolls around (he was also the older sibling, not Lex, ‘nother fun fact from the book), there’s no reason for them either. Tim makes animatronics, and especially dinosaurs, for museums. Admittedly I’m fuzzy on if it’s just dinosaurs or what, but I distinctly remember him making fake dinosaurs for one reason or another. If you make things like that, especially for museums, you’re going to need to keep up on the latest scientific knowledge on them. He’ll probably know a lot. Therefore, he’d have no reason to contact them.

New movie/trilogy means new characters. They don’t even exist yet for you to hate, give them a chance to rub you the wrong way at least. Frankly I want them to bring Dodgson back (even if he did spoiler die in the Lost World Book but oh man he was scummy and an amazing villain), especially since he was barely acknowledged in the first movie, and he’s the entire reason Nedry tried to get those embryos and why the park failed and is the reason the entire first movie really happened. Yes. Because of him. Where the hell has he been? Seriously.

But honestly, I’m not all that concerned with story or actors and frankly I don’t know why they’re a huge concern in a movie about dinosaurs.

How about we have some accurate dinosaurs for once? All the movies see inaccuracies, and the books are no better, but you keep the times in mind. However, JPIII is horrid for inaccuracies, and I don’t even mean the Spinosaurs vs. Tyrannosaurus fight (which people are so butthurt over it makes me laugh. Two different types of apex predators from different times and places who hunted and killed different things. You can argue all you want but there is no way of knowing the real outcome). The raptors are my favorite criminals for inaccuracy.

By the time JPIII rolled around people knew Velocirapors, and frankly most Dromaeosaurs, had feathers. They’ve found imprints of feathers in countless fossils, my personal favorite being Microraptor. And I don’t just mean those half-assed tendrils on their heads in III, I mean full fledged full-body protofeathers, and perhaps something resembling wings on their arms in later species. Hard to say for sure, but it is widely known and accepted that they were much more covered. So if they gave them feathers, holy shit I could die happy.

And made them the right size. Or used a different species. I can’t remember where I read this, and I’d like to cite sources so I can be accurate, but I’m not sure I can be. But if I remember correctly, for a time Deinonychus antirrhopus was Velociraptor antirrhopus, and is the reason Crichton had his raptors being large compared to Velociraptor mongoliensis (of course now there’s Velociraptor osmolskae as of 2008 but that’s another bag of worms).

In short, the raptors in the movies and books are Deinonychus.

If they kept them the same size and called them Deinonychus, Deinons, whatever, I’d be even happier. I like the big bad raptors, because Velociraptor is dinky. It could come up to about my knees in terms of height. Not as threatening as Deinonychus, but those still come up to about an adult human’s waist.

Now I’m rambling so feel free to ignore this part, but there’s a whole host of amazing dinosaurs they could/should/need to bring into these stories. Rex is cool. Raptors are cool. I’m a bit tired of them though. There’s other cool Dromaeosaurs and predators.

I was excited when Spinosaurus killed Rex, I’ll be honest. Not for the reason you’d think though; I was just so tired of Tyrannosaurus (though making it look like a scavenger pisses me off but at least they addressed the no-it-can-actually-see-you-if-you-hold-still bit, which I could go on about some more but I won’t because this is getting long and stupid).

But now I want to show you some baddies that need some limelight. This is the part where I have no idea why you’re reading what I’m saying and you don’t really have to.

Meet Achillobator giganticus.

20ft long, probably about as tall as the average man, and more of what the JP raptors ever were. I like Achillobator. Achillobators are cool.

Masiakasaurus knopfleri. It’s not a big baddy, but look at that face and tell me it wouldn’t be scary. I mean really.

Beipiaosaurus inexpectacus. Look at those claws. Then think about how it was a carnivore. Yes please.

Allosaurus fragilis. Some of you have probably seen this toy made by Papo, and personally I have one. As soon as I saw it I knew it needed to be the next giant bad guy. It’s not as big as Tyrannosaurus, and the average Spinosaur would be bigger than the average Rex most days (yes, really, moving on). He’s not huge. But that doesn’t mean he can’t be just as mean and scary, and frankly being smaller leaves so many options. It could get into more places Rex couldn’t. Do you know how cool and scary that would be because I don’t think you do oh my goodness put it in a movie already geez Allosaurus is my homeboy.

I think this will conclude my thoughts. I’ve said way too much now. s:

tl;dr why are you not more concerned about the dinosaurs gawl

i seriously read this whole thing.
Basically, I think were more concerned about it on a film kinda level. Of course the movie has to have dinosaurs. It’s Jurassic Park, so we already know there’s going to be dinosaurs. A dinosaur is a dinosaur and I’m happy with whatever they put in there. We know a lot of it is absurd and all the facts you stated are true but what’s the point? Dinosaurs are dead and you might as well make them fun on screen, eating people and what not. When i grew up watching this movie, it just captured my attention because of what it was as a whole. i love the film industry and i can honestly say that i was never super interested in science and dinosaurs. although now that im older and understand better, they are more interesting. Anyway, another reason is because its been 11 effing years since the last jurassic park movie and neither 2 or 3 did it for me. For eleven years all we have gotten to do is rewatch the movies, particularly the first, over and over again just to bring the nostalgic feeling back, to watch the characters we love so much, on screen. We just miss them and that’s who we’ve grow up with. But perhaps not everyone feels that way. And about the book. No one was smart enough to tell me as a young girl that it was based off a book. I have not read the books and I want to. I know its different. But the movie “has its own story” alreayd and anyone who’s seen it knows its story, exactly how it was shown, so adding things from the book or something like hammond being dead isn’t going to make sense to people unless they really explain it and go back to the other movies (especially if they havn’t read the books). I know how people hate when movies are so much different from the books but Jurassic Park is not one of those arguments I see a lot. Not at all really, because the film was so fantastic and I cant argue with that. Also, Joe Mazzello is super sexy. Period. I’m not trying to automatically assume that the movie is going to be horrilbe. im just anxious and nervous. its been SOOO long and you just dont understand how much i love JP and how long i’ve been waiting for the next movie. i want it to be good and the details ive heard so far are very nerve wrecking. but thanks for replying. it was….interesting :D
